The course is designed to provide an introduction into arable agronomy from a beginner or intermediate level. The online nature of the course provides the flexibility of studying from your own home, whilst saving the expense of travel and accommodation. The course will total approximately 30-hours of material, broken down into 20–30-minute videos to make it easy to watch short sections around your current work/life schedule. The material will be centred around embedded field videos to help visualise management aspects in the field throughout the production cycle. These videos will be supported by a series of material such as key information sheets, links to useful material and short-answer quizzes to help embed and test your knowledge.
The course will cover key principles such as soil health and management, crop rotations, variety selection, crop establishment, weed, pest and disease management, crop nutrition and pesticide technology.
The management of mainstream arable crops in the UK and Western Europe will then be covered:
The course can be used as a stand-alone course or used as a direct entry onto the ‘Basis Certificate in Agronomy’ course.
