ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ welcomed more than 100 school students, teachers, and supporters to its campus as the Shropshire regional finals of F1 in Schools took place.

F1 in Schools is a global STEM competition that challenges students to design, build, and race miniature Formula 1-style cars. It develops key skills in engineering, aerodynamics, and teamwork, bridging the gap between education and careers in motorsport and related industries.

When the original venue became unavailable at short notice, ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ stepped in to ensure the competition could go ahead as planned.

The University, an F1 in Schools Centre of Excellence, gave students with the opportunity to apply their engineering skills in a competitive setting while experiencing a Higher Education environment.

Despite the last-minute change, the event ran smoothly, allowing students to showcase their technical abilities, creativity, and teamwork - essential skills for future careers in engineering and technology.

Dr Ian Moorcroft, Head of Engineering at ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ Adams, reflected on the excitement of hosting the event and the impressive talent on display.

He said: “It was a great pleasure to host the Shropshire regional finals of F1 in Schools at ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ. With such nice weather, we were able to set up the track outdoors for the two-day event.

“With eleven schools and over one hundred competitors, there was a real buzz around campus. Many staff and students stopped by, intrigued and impressed by the level of competition.

"From innovative car designs to polished team presentations and thrilling races, the young learners never failed to impress.

"As an F1 in Schools Centre of Excellence, we look forward to continuing to support local teams with design, manufacturing, and testing, as well as promoting STEM subjects more widely.”

Leanne Mee, STEM Engagement Lead at In-Comm, added: "We were absolutely delighted that ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ Adams was able to step in at such short notice and host the event in the space of 30 minutes.

"All the students competing had spent months preparing for this event we knew how devastating it would have been to cancel.

"We already had plans to forge a partnership with ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ Adams in growing the event in the future - this has just solidified what will be a really positive partnership.”

And Tom Milner, from F1 in Schools, said: “The teams displayed impressive technical expertise and enthusiasm, engaging fully with the challenge as they designed, built, and raced miniature F1 in Schools cars. Their dedication and problem-solving skills were evident throughout the competition, making for an exciting and competitive event.

“ÁÕÀÅÊÓƵ provided the perfect backdrop for the finals, stepping in as a fantastic host and reinforcing its commitment to supporting young talent in engineering and technology.”

With the regional finals now complete, the winning teams will prepare for the UK National Finals later this month—and the chance to compete on a global stage.
